World Earth Day: Greening Australia

A strong respect for people and the planet we share is at the core of everything we do. We are proud to deepen our commitment by partnering with i=Change and Greening Australia to allow our customers to shop with purpose and make a difference.

Since European settlement, over 90 million hectares of land across Australia have been cleared, threatening species and the productivity of farmlands. Climate change will only exacerbate the impact with reduced rainfall, increased temperatures, droughts and more frequent extreme weather events.

Greening Australia with i=change

Greening Australia aims to restore 330,000 hectares of native trees across Australia by 2030. Drawing on the expert input of Traditional Owners, scientists and local land managers, we will plant 500 million trees and shrubs to store carbon, create quality habitat for native wildlife, and restore degraded farmland. These 500 million trees and shrubs will absorb over 1.3 million tonnes of carbon dioxide per year by 2030, and reduce atmospheric carbon pollution.

Giving Back with greening Australia

Greening Australia is a proudly independent environmental enterprise. We are a national not-for-profit committed to restoring Australia’s diverse landscapes and protecting biodiversity in ways that benefit communities, economies, and nature. With projects spanning the breadth of the country – from city suburbs to remote rural locations – we apply a science-led, collaborative approach to deliver nature-based solutions addressing the twin crises of climate change and biodiversity loss. Greening Australia was established in 1982, the International Year of the Tree, in response to the serious impacts of tree decline on agriculture and the environment across Australia.
