IN THE STUDIO WITH HOLLY RYAN

CONGRATULATIONS ON YOUR NEW SHOWROOM! WHAT WAS THE INSPIRATION BEHIND THE DESIGN?

Mid century modern meets organic minimalism. I sourced quite a few beautiful antique pieces of furniture via curated_spaces and vampt vintage design. The studio and office have been custom built and co-designed with northern beaches carpenter; Sam Creecy. The look is light and bright with an organic white wash over the workbenches and recycled hardwood timber trimmings.
Sam even built me a Harry Potter cupboard which I am just a bit over excited about and the door to my workshop is painted bright yellow to add some fun to the space.

I also worked with Madi Creecy on fitting out the space and our courtyard with beautiful greenery and plant life suited to the lighting conditions of our space to create our very own inner oasis.
WHAT IS YOUR WORKSPACE UNIFORM?

In the workshop making jewellery I wear a lot of overalls, coveralls and jumpsuits in denim or workwear brushed cotton.. However for meetings, showroom appointments and in the office I wear suiting, a lot of blazers, black silk pieces, fine knits and denim. I have a fairly minimal office uniform and on the weekends away from work I wear lots of colour.

WAS HOLLY RYAN SCULPTURE'S A NATURAL PROGRESSION FOR YOU ARTISTICALLY OR SOMETHING THAT YOU HAD ALWAYS BEEN DABBLING IN?

I first created a few of my sculptures as a way to display my jewellery at Fashion Week in 2017 and soon after I was approached by Jerico Tracy, director of Jerico Contemporary gallery for representation. Since then I have had two solo shows with the gallery as well as shown with the gallery at Sydney Contemporary art fair and have worked in a group show at Jerico Contemporary opening Thursday 16th July and my next solo show is set for early December.
